Generally, the term setpoint (x) refers to a command input to a feedback control system, controlling the equlibrium level the control circle is aiming at.

In the biological context, it is often problematic to speak from a setpoint in the same sense as it is meant in technological language. Usually, with respect to living systems the word setpoint denotes therefore the equilibrum point (attractive fixpoint) of the control system itself.
